Twice a week BRCOH provides food and clothing to individuals and families in need from the Mahoning Valley and surrounding counties.
According to Feeding America, on average 57% of the population is below poverty threshold and 90,000 residents in the Mahoning Valley are “food insecure”. (Food insecurity refers to USDA’s measure of lack of access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members and limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods. Food-insecure households are not necessarily food insecure all the time. Food insecurity may reflect a household’s need to make trade-offs between important basic needs, such as housing or medical bills, and purchasing nutritionally adequate foods.)
Each week BRCOH rescues more than 1,500 pounds of food from local restaurants, bakeries, and hospitals. The rescued food is given to families in need in our community.
Our Food Rescue program is vital in keeping BRCOH's food pantry stocked with food to help fight hunger in the Mahoning Valley and surrounding communities.
